There have been a few incidents recently of people being followed when out dog walking. These may be related to dog theft but whatever, it is best to be prepared.
Always carry your phone (charged)
Make sure you have at least one app activated that can alert others if you are in trouble – One Scream, Hollie Guard
Try to walk with another person
Keep your dog in view at all times
Don’t walk with headphones on. You need to stay alert and listen out
If you are followed or approached, if possible get a photo of the person or at least a good description, noting height, hair colour, clothes
If they are using a vehicle, try to get a photograph of the vehicle and number plate. Colour, make, location and time are important too
Carry something that can ‘buy you time’ if you are approached. A rape alarm, safety whistle, Farb Gel spray.
Try not to call your dog by its name. If it comes to you when you call it, it will go to someone else when they use its name
Report any incident to the police. There may have been other reports and your call just might help them join the dots
