Here at Walksafe, we are dog owners, so we understand the need to keep your dogs safe. We have been concerned about the increase in dog thefts and decided that we should share information that we have gathered, when we have helped friends search for their missing or stolen pets.

Our information sheets give detailed advice on what to do and who to contact if your pet is missing and include information on useful Apps and items you can carry to increase your safety when out walking.

We wanted to carry something that would make us feel safer when walking. We didn’t want anything cumbersome as all dog walkers know that every available pocket is already stuffed full of essentials – phone, treats, poo bags etc

We tried and tested various products and decided that the best legal deterrents were a high decibel whistle (we opted for one recommended for use by those participating in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme) and a pin activated rape alarm, which incorporates a torch. The rape alarm is to a police preferred specification. The alarm was chosen as it requires you to pull out a pin, not constantly depress a button. Once activated, it operates until you replace the pin.

As these items work well for us we combined them with the information sheet into a Safety Pack. The packs include delivery and a donation to Cheryl’s Paws for a Cause (they help pay vet fees for struggling rescue groups and any other costs associated with rescuing animals in need). Packs are £12.99 each.

The Safety for Everyone sheets were a response to the tragic murder of Sarah Everard. We were aware that there was information out there on things you could do and places you could go if in trouble or danger. The only problem was that the information was not in one place. We carried out research, spoke to lots of people and our Safety for Everyone sheets are a collation of this information.

They cover Help Signs and Words, Safe Havens, Apps, Items to Carry and more. These sheets are combined in a pack with the safety whistle and rape alarm. They are £12.99 and this includes p&p and a donation to RISE (an independent, Brighton based registered charity that helps people affected by domestic abuse).
