SNAKE BITES
The warmer weather seems to be bringing out adders in some dog walking locations. People have been asking what to do if your dog gets bitten by one.I contacted a local vet who offered this advice ….Medivet (Forest Row) · Adder bite, what is our advice? We see adder bites often enough in our practice. We have been out of antivenom for several years now, since it is restricted to human hospitals and veterinary referral centers, but we have a good recovery rate of 100% by bitten dogs.We recommend to take your dog straight away to the vets if bitten, time is at essence for fast recovery. You need to reduce your dogs stress and activity as much as possible. Once at the practice, the vet team will try to reduce penetration of the venom, applying a tourniquet and flushing venom from the entrance point. In addition to that, the vet will treat any other additional signs the dog is displaying, antihistamines for the swelling and allergic reaction, pain relief and antibiotics and if your pet is presented with shock, they will be placed on drip for up to 24h.We adopted this protocol 3 years ago and we have been really successful with most of the patients leaving hospital the same days and a 100% survival rate.Message to take home, If you witness an adder bite, act fast, take your pet to the vets.

The heatwave is exhausting and my dogs have been suffering, even in the coolest part of the house.
I was recommended this Cooling Vest and thought you may like to know that it works brilliantly. There is another heatwave forecast for August so plenty more opportunities to use it this year.
